Green methods 'not just applicable to new towns'

While the new eco-towns announced by the government may be able to
provide environmentally-astute properties, efforts such as these
should be put into all new homes, it has been claimed.
Friends of the Earth's Paul de Zylva stated that these towns should
be a "blueprint" for future designs and that the "highest"
standards ought to be adhered to.
Moreover, he demanded to know how existing carbon emissions will be
reduced in the future and asked the government should reveal how it
will do this.
"The government must prioritise this area and make it cheaper and
easier for people to green their homes and invest in energy saving
and clean renewable technologies such as solar panels," he
commented.
At present, these homes are responsible for a quarter of carbon
emissions in the UK, he added.
Last week, the Federation of Master Builders suggested that
renovating empty homes could be a better way to help the
environment than eco-towns.
