Estate agents 'could get busier as summer approaches'

Estate agents could see their business pick up as the summer months
get nearer, one property expert has claimed.
Catherine Hearnden, director of MyMortgageDirect, explained that
the warmer weather often brings a boost to business in the estate
agency sector.
"We are in untested times, so it's hard to say, but traditionally
you get to Easter and people start looking," she pointed out.
Ms Hearnden added that, while the snow and cold weather undoubtedly
had an effect on the house buyers, it remains to be seen how much
of a difference it will make overall and stated that it is not
cause for great concern.
She said that people should be cautious about accepting research
regarding the bad weather's impact and see how things stand at the
end of February.
Research released by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
found that there was a 20 per cent increase in the number of its
members reporting a fall rather than a rise of new buyer enquiries
in January compared with the previous month.
The organisation cited bad weather as a major cause of the dip
experienced across the industry during January.
