Contents cover 'not taken because of attitude'

Many people may not be taking out home insurance because they are
too complacent about such issues, according to a spokeswoman at
Norwich Union.
Household underwriting consultant at the body Alison Palmer stated
that many homeowners have an "it'll never happen to me" attitude
that ensures they will not take out contents cover.
People do not consider the option, she remarked, while in the case
of building insurance a mortgage provider may include this in the
overall package.
When things go wrong, however, she claimed, "people lose everything
and it's a horrible thing".
Ms Palmer added that about 25 per cent of consumers in the UK in
total do not have contents cover.
"It's only from taking a sample of people and just asking them but
I think it's about that and it always has been in the last few
years anyway," she commented.
Many valuable possessions reside in people's kitchens, recent
research from Legal & General has observed.
